BIO JoAnne treated herself to her first art class at the Art Students League in New York City for her 60th birthday in January of 2003. She was lucky to have Anita Stickel as her first teacher of a life drawing class. Anita stressed drawing from focusing on the contrast of light and dark using only charcoal. In the fall of 2003 JoAnne added classes at the Pastel Society of America with Maceo Mitchell. Although JoAnne only studied with these two teachers for a short period of time, (she relocated from the New York area in May 2004), both of them had a profound influence on her work and she is most grateful to them for the outstanding introduction they provided. When JoAnne retired in May 2004, following a thirty year career as Founder, Artistic Director and Choreographer for the Avodah Dance Ensemble she moved to Steamboat Springs, Colorado. She now devotes full time to working in pastels and oils (Genesis heat set oils) both in Steamboat and when traveling. Her work has been exhibited at the Steamboat Springs Art Depot, in Steamboat Springs, Colorado and at the Casa de Lingua in Monteverdi, Costa Rica. Her work has been selected to appear in juried shows: Tubac Center for the Arts in Tubac Arizona (Holiday Show, 2005); the national pastel show of The Oregon Society for Pastels (Fall, 2006); The Kitchen Goddess Exhibition of the Colorado Chapter of Women's Caucus for Art (Winter, 2007); and For Pastels Only, on Cape Cod (August 2007). Her work is in private collections in Costa Rica; Guatemala; Sarasota, Florida; Bariloche, Argentina; Atlanta, Georgia; Green Valley, Arizona; New York City; and Jersey City, New Jersey. In May, 2007 a floral pastel of hers was featured on the cover of The Downtowner, a montly newspaper in Steamboat. JoAnne will have her first solo exhibition this October at Creekside Cafe in Steamboat. She is a member of the Steamboat Springs Art Council and the Pastel Society of Colorado. JoAnne lives in Steamboat Springs with her husband, Murray. A retired economist, Murray now spends his time writing. He recently published a book about his father's life as a sport's announcer. You can read more about that at his website www.murraytuckerwriter.com.
